In the coming years, IIT-ISM would  focus on research on artificial intelligence, hydrogen based energy, coal to gas, other advanced energy sources and environmental improvement, said Dr. SK Mishra the new director of the institute while talking to the media in Dhanbad on Thursday.He took over as director only on Wednesday.   He said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be helpful in health services, especially in the development of life-saving equipment and complex operations. However, he clarified that such equipment can never replace doctors. Right now we are at the initial stage of this and a lot more has to be done further so that good equipment can be made available at low cost.   He said that in the series of energy sources, special attention should be paid to the production of wind and solar energy and its positive utilization so that the society can get meaningful benefits from it. He said that without utility sources  there is no benefit in production.   Discussing the development of hydrogen based energy, the Director said that along with increasing the production of hydrogen electrolysers in the country, research on the storage and transportation of hydrogen after production is also necessary.  Proper research on  transportation technology is  necessary for a tropical country like India after the production of hydrogen. He said that the progress of battery based vehicles in the country will take time because we do not yet have charging points like  we have a network of petrol and diesel pumps. We have established this network of  pump systems in the last five decades. It will take 10 to 15 years to set up such a system for electrical vehicles, after which the demand for battery based vehicles will increase in the country. Hydrogen based cars would also come within five to six years, he added  He said that he would like to see that the students of the institute become job creators and not job seekers.Those are the best minds of the country thus can  be job givers.
